It’s because Downton Abbey goes to the person who inherits Lord Grantham’s heir.  Unfortunately, because the law requires a male heir, none of his daughters can inherit.  Moreover, because his close relatives James and Patrick Crawley who were the heirs of Downton died, he now must pass his title to a distant relative.

2. What was wrong with the salt in the first episode of Downton Abbey?

In Episode 1 of Season 1, the salt that was mentioned was salt of sorrel that is poisonous to humans in some dosage.  It was supposed to be used to clean the brass pots, but Daisy mistakenly handed it to William.

3. How many episodes are in season 1 of Downton Abbey?
